The Rape Crisis Center sponsors a number of public awareness and fundraising events throughout the year. Please share information about our events wherever you can.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)
April is recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Every year, The Rape Crisis Center hosts a variety of events to bring awareness to issues around sexual assault throughout the month of April.

Bring your lunch and join us at The Rape Crisis Center to learn more about key issues, including the public health implications of sexual assault. Also, gain a better understanding of the sexual assault exam, as well as other important issues. All of the lunch and learn sessions are free and open to the public.
Mid April: New Advocate Training
New Advocate Training begins in mid-April. If you have ever wanted to volunteer with The Rape Crisis Center, this spring is a great time to enter training and assist with supporting victims of sexual assault. Application and interview must be completed in advance.
Friday, April 18: Lunch and Learn for Survivors at the City of the World Gallery
This special event will be geared specifically toward survivors of sexual assault. Held at the City of the World Gallery, the event will offer survivors an opportunity to create a unique piece of artwork.
Wednesday, April 23: Denim Day Art Auction and Celebration
The Rape Crisis Center will mark the 15th annual Denim Day with the Denim Day Art Auction and Celebration.
Denim Day encourages the community at large to wear denim as a show of solidarity with victims of sexual violence everywhere. The day commemorates a decision by the Supreme Court of Italy, which overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans, and the panel concluded she must have assisted her attacker in taking them off, and therefore was consenting. This terrible decision brought worldwide attention to the rampant victim blaming that continues to occur with sexual assault.
We encourage businesses, especially those in the downtown Las Vegas area, to offer employees an opportunity to wear denim to work that day, and for a $15 donation to attend The Rape Crisis Center’s Art Auction and Denim Day celebration from 5:30 to 8 pm (location TBD).
The Rape Crisis Center’s 40th Anniversary Year
Beginning January, 2014
The Rape Crisis Center was founded as Community Action Against Rape in January, 1974. Few Las Vegas institutions have lasted 40 years, but thanks to the dedication of countless volunteers, donors, and community supporters, we have been here, serving victims of sexual assault for four decades.
Please be a part of our anniversary celebration!
If you would like to host an event in honor of our 40th anniversary; it can be a ladies tea, a barbeque, or a cocktail party, and ask your guests to do something to support The Rape Crisis Center, we would greatly appreciate it!
You can have people can bring:
- Cash contributions
- New clothing (navy or gray sweatpants, dark gray, black or navy t-shirts or sweatshirts, women’s underwear, sports bras)
- Bus passes
Or, you can just talk about the issue of sexual assault to raise awareness. Over the course of the year, we want to have at least 100 people make a commitment to support the organization through a regular monthly gift of $10, $20, $40 or $100.
Please let us know about your event so that we can provide you with information to distribute, and learn what you are doing to assure that The Rape Crisis Center is around as long as necessary to serve victims and to keep educating the community until sexual violence becomes a thing of the past.
